I was recently given a box of coins in 2 by 2's. Most of them where nickels from the 60's, all still in mint sealed packages, or in AU condition in 2x2's. There was one 1939 doubled Monticello, however. Until I was given it, I did not even know it existed. Is there an estimate on how many are known? I have done some researching, but am fascinated by this coin and would love to learn more. Also, is there any value? The picture is a little bit fuzzy, but I would grade the coin between AU 50 and AU 55- closer to the latter. There is very high detail on Monticello and on Jeffersons face.

It's worth about a $135 based on the 2013 Red Book. Nice doubling!

Im not so convinced, I could be wrong I have been in the past but im not seeing any notching or separation? Can you take a picture of the last few letters of MONTECELLO, Here is a pic of a GEM state example notice the spread. Yours also has no doubling on FIVE CENTS either?
