At most places I dig I find religious artifacts. In my town's courtyard they have festivals with vendors every year. One of these vendors was obviously making cross pennies and dumping their errors on the ground. Against one tree I found a few dozen pennies with the cross stamped into them so you could not tie them to a necklace. Here's a picture of some of the best condition I found. The zincs were all nasty but the coppers cleaned up rather well. cross pennies.jpg

Thats pretty cool. Ever find them with like a four leaf clover punch or anything other than a cross?

I suspect the cross is what they're making and the pennies you're finding are what's left over. Of course I'm often wrong.. lol Very cool.

Here's pics of some on ebay. I would like to find the cross pieces too! cross penny.jpg
