My favorite large cent I have ever found (my avatar). An ideas on a details grade for it, not a net grade but a details grade (what it would be without corrosion)

If I dug it up I woud grade it as priceless.

LOL, That is the case right now, to me it is priceless, I consider it MS-70+ in my eyes even though :laughing7:. I would never sell it due to my attachment to that find.

I would say it's in VG to F shape. At least worth around 100-165 dollars.
If it hadn't been for the corrosion damage, it would have graded much better than that. At least XF as I see no real wear on the high spots. When they get that corroded, it's pretty hard to tell how much better it would have been prior to the damage.

That large cent would be a grade of extra fine. Hair lines are amazing, especially the hair above forehead. That hair usually flattens out first. Olive leaves on back are awesome!! I could tell you that the overall grade or net grade of your coin would be a Fine. I think it's worth somewhere between $150-$175 dollars. Without the corrosion....$1,200!!!

It is crazy to think that when it came into the ground it was worth 15 cents in today's money, not a whole lot, when it came out of the ground it is a desirable 211 year old high grade treasure, if not dropped worth over $1000 (though 100% priceless to me). Interesting to think about.

I agree with Bill, due to the remaining detail present in the hair lines and leaves on the reverse I would grade it as Fine 40 condition based on wear pattern only. If the corrosion were not present, value would be in the range of $1,000 to $1,100.

Do you think I should get it graded as a details grade or would they not grade it and send it back?

Considering the damage, it's not worth the grading costs IMO.
