I was reading where Bust Halfs have the words Half Dollar or Fifty Cents on the edge of the coin. But I can't find anywhere that they had both. Did they have both or just one per coin?
On the Capped Bust lettered edge half dollar, the edge bears the statement of value: FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR. For good measure, the inscription 50 C. appears below the eagle.
Don......
There were many different variations of the 50 Cents below the eagle. From 1807-1836, the back said 50 C. From 1836-1837, it was spelled out 50 Cents. From 1838-1839, it said Half Dol.
P.S.- Look out for the 1836 where it is spelled out 50 Cents. There were maybe 1,200 minted and they are worth thousands!
