bought a collection off my coworker. they belonged to her late hisband these were in there. Are the genuine ddo or machine doubling? And what is their value if any
May have to zoom in on pictures to see a little better
I am sorry but all I see is Machine Doubling on the Dates of both coins! You will notice that what appears to be doubled portions of the Date digits are flat and that the main digits are slightly thinner adjacent to what appears to be doubling. The latter is due to a portion of the main Date digits being cut/sliced off when the Obverse Die slightly re-strikes the minted coin due to hydraulic chatter (i.e. sudden movements up and down usually due to air in the hydraulics of the Minting Press) thus creating the flat doubled appearing parts of the Date digits.
Sorry for the poor explanation but the process that occurs in creating Machine Doubling is somewhat hard to put into words that make sense!
