I'm sitting here today going through my finds from last year and came across this 1914 Barber in great condition for a dug coin.
Looks like a proof. I think? If I knew what one is.. Lol
Can anyone help, and give me a somewhat grade?
Thanks George ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1453590570.218083.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1453590585.952077.jpg

It doesn't look like a proof to me. It is a nice looking coin though. If it isn't cleaned I bet it would grade pretty high.

Thanks guys.
Never cleaned it. Just ran it under water when I found it.
What would a proof look like?

A proof would have much stronger design details. The rims would be strong and sharply squared. The coin may have evidence of polishing of the die (small raised scratches from where the polish scratching into the die). I do not think the rims are strong enough, square enough, or have enough detail. I doubt highly if it is a proof.

Doesn't show any characteristics of a proof, but a very nice dime anyway!

Beautiful coin and great find! Again, we are dealing with photographs, but from them, it looks to be AU57 to Unc, most likely the latter. Now, I know you stated you didn't clean it, but NGC or PCGS may make it a Details-Improperly Cleaned coin. Note how the tarnish appears that it has been rubbed in places. I was frustrated when I pulled a beautiful Seated dime from the ground. All I did at home was place it under running water. I was banking on XL #, but it was returned from NGC as XL Details-Improperly Cleaned.

Again...Great Find!

Coin dealer for 20 years ... It is an awesome coin but it is not a proof. If it was sent in for grading it would grade AU 50/Cleaned. Great find.

Thank you guys
Was just wondering. I find a lot of coins, just not a coin guy.
When I was going through my coins yesterday this one caught my eye.
Wish it was a key date coin!!! Lol
