If it is a Denver mint it's possible it was made from wrong stock. If it's the same thickness as a dime they are known to exist from that year.

Photos are pretty blurry, but, it looks to me like the coin is just severely worn.

54 thousandths is well within tolerance for dimes. Since the 1970D is known to have several examples minted with dime stock, it could be genuine.

Errors such as these are made when the contractor that provides the blank planchettes runs sheet of the wrong thickness through the punch process. With the 1970D quarter in question, dime thickness sheet was run through the punch process for quarters. Neither the contractor nor the mint caught the error.

Redbook says clad qtr struck on clad dime stock can hit $350. a clear photo will give an idea on grade. a definite candidate for PCGS or NGC grading if it "is what it is". I graciously bow to your possibly MEGA COOL find :notworthy::icon_thumleft::icon_thumright:

I'm apparently quite drunk and can's seem to see it very clearly...

Is it a magicians quarter?
