chin & nose also appear doubled. shoot in 1280 resolution & natural light. the '68's were nicely struck with high relief & bold deep rims on all the ones I find. wait for Enamel & Huntsman for their opinion :dontknow:

cudamark is correct, it is nothing but Machine Doubling! You will note this due to the flatness of the secondary images and lettering and the loss of part of these which can be especially seen on the lettering (i.e. parts of the letters are smashed flat to create the doubling look effect).

Yeah, a combination of md and die deterioration.
