I was looking through some 1983 pennies I had seeing if I had a 1983 doubled die reverse. On this one I noticed these weird raised dots. They are part of the coin and not something stuck on it.

The biggest dot is in between the O and the N in ONE. There is a dot in between C and E in CENT. Also there is a dot over the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM and under the right bottom corner of the memorial.

I took these pictures through my desktop loupe.

Any of you coin experts have any ideas about what this is?

These are most likely contaminants that were on the Zinc Planchets when they were Copper Plated. After some time, the contaminants begin to cause bubbles and separation between the Zinc and Copper plating and eventually will break through the surface and totally compromise the coin.
