Yes, counterstamps. People put coins in machines and pay to have a stamp put on top of them. Unless you really want one, and it's uncirculated, not much if any additional value except as a curiosity.

Actually that's not correct. Those particular coins are from a set produced by a third party company. It came with a map of the United States to put the coins on.

I had the set as a child...but, in the 70's..I took it to a local (small) grocery store and traded it in for Gobstoppers...lol Had the Lincoln Cents in a card as well...
