1959 Steel Cent? It Sticks to a magnet

Ok so any opinons on this would be great. I was originally going to post it in this thread

but after it sticking to a magnet, thought I would create a new one. My grandfather gave it to me this past weekend. Says he dug it years ago, but honestly does not look dug at all.

Looks like there is a line through "IN GOD WE TRUST". is it possible for someone to "steel" coat a cent outside the mint?

fyi, the pics got a bit yellowish, but the cent is silver in color.

it could just be plated with silver or some other metal.

i have 2 gold plated 1959 cents. but i dont' remember the mint mark.

just my 2 cents

Thats what I thought at first too. But it sticks to a magnet.

Is it possible to coat a cent with steel? or some other magnetic metal.

hmm.

i just checked my gold plated pennies. both are 1959 no mint marks. and they stick to a magnet as well but it's a light attraction.

we need somebody who is an expert, do the normal 1959 pennies stick to a magnet??

Maybe they are like the 1937 cent listed in the following article.
