Most people know why birds fly in a "V" because they ride off the vortices from the bird's wings in front of them. Makes for easier flying. But do you know why sometimes one leg of the "V" is longer than the other?

More birds on that side.

Actually it usually means a crosswind is blowing with short side taking blunt of the wind. Birds fly in V for same reason jets do, spend less energy and fuel.
