First Quarter boxes! Even got some treasure for my trouble. Still getting extra penny boxes, looking for the core of the copper/wheatie dump. Unfortunately, I think I probably missed it at this point. I did end up with almost forty rolls of early state quarters, though.

I've also noticed my current format doesn't really work so great if I search more than a few boxes a week.. once it gets past 5 or 6 it gets very 'wall of text'-y. What do you folks think, posts getting too bulky?

Congratulations on the West Pointers! I agree, this is one of the most detailed logs I've seen, but at the same time it's your log. If that's the way you want it then do it, but if it gets to be too much for you, then only report the pertinents. For example, 40's and 50's wheats are fairly common. You could write something like 21 wheats (1918S, 1935, 19x 1940-58). Just to be clear though, it's 100% up to you. I like to look back at my dime hunt and reread my posts from time to time. No one's gonna care about your posts more than you do. Make them pleasing to yourself before anyone else.

Very well said Sleepy. Pretty good life advice in general, actually. I do rather enjoy my statistics :laughing7:
I've removed a few bits of information that don't need to be in "every" post; like the records. As long as I know what they are so they can be mentioned when broken, I don't need them taking up so much space all the time. Will see how much it helps.

Nice to beat the 'ol Indian head record. 1 in 2017, none in 2018, now 2 this year. 100+ year old coins just feel great.

Going slightly crazy with boxes, jamming them in before the end of the year. Eight in one week is definitely a record. Got rewarded with some treasures for my efforts! Hit that magical 200th penny box, which was one of my goals for the year.

Since I know somebody will be curious (and I'm not sure where I put the dang thing..); The '22D is in pretty poor condition. A 6, at absolute best, and that might be generous. Wheat stalks starting to merge with the rim, all that. But hey, scarce is scarce. I'm fairly sure that makes my first key or semi-key coin directly from a sealed bank box, although I have others overall.

Made it to the 50th nickel box just in time for the end of the year. There's technically one more quarter box before the official end of 2019 but in all likelyhood I'll count this post as the end of the year for record keeping.
I haven't gone back and looked yet (I'll be making a '2019 summary' post in the near future), but I think most of my existing records were broken this year. Indian head pennies, first V nickel, first dime boxes, first quarter boxes, record copper penny count just to start with. Overall, an excellent year.

Hope all the rest of you folks had a wonderful 2019, Here's to hoping we all hit it big in 2020. (it's a repeater year, that makes it lucky - right?)

Last tiny bit of 2019 and the start of 2020.. not a good start by my count. Not quite "nothing", but pretty close. I'm also looking at six solid-2019D penny boxes so far this week. Heading for a record skunk streak and we're not even halfway through January yet, yikes. Here's to hoping it picks up somewhat soon.

Now this was a great week. A silver in every quarter box, another proof, another clipped planchet and; best for last, we're now only missing four pre-60 Jeffersons. Actually not in bad condition, either.
Let's do this every week for 2020.

Nickel Box #55 (2000 nickels)

pre-1960 (19): 1941P, 1948P, 1948D, 1949D X2, 1949S, 1952S, 1953D, 1955D, 1957D X3, 1958D X3, 1959D X4
(currently missing 5 more pre-1960 Jeffersons)

1 Canadians - 1998

2017 penny

---------------------------------------------------------

Nickel Box #56 (2000 nickels)

pre-1960 (18): 1938S, 1939P X2, 1941P, 1948P X2, 1950P, 1952P, 1953D, 1954D X2, 1954S, 1955D, 1956D, 1957P, 1957D, 1958D, 1959P
(currently missing 5 -> 4 more pre-1960 Jeffersons)

1938S - 3rd lowest mintage of the series
1968S possible proof - new oldest proof
1988D possible double clipped planchet

S20200118_0006.jpg S20200118_0007.jpg
S20200118_0008.jpg S20200118_0009.jpg

---------------------------------------------------------

Quarter Box #5 (2000 quarters)

1 Silver - 1941P
(record oldest US 1944 -> 1941)

Other Notes: box/"collection" dump possibly from 2011 or 2012. not a single coin from 2012+. Many high grade 2007-2010.

---------------------------------------------------------

Quarter Box #6 (2000 quarters)

1 Silver - 1964P

Other Notes: very light scattering of 2012-2019 coins, but still 96% pre-2012.
1985 Ireland 5 pence
1985D minor grease strike

Score on the '38S! That's a toughie to find. Now on to the Jefferson final four! Man, those quarter boxes were strange this week, but you know, it seems to have turned out alright for you.

Wish I could say those last four will be easier but I think it'll be a while before we see another. At a guess, it might be 30+ boxes before the next one.. and I only search about 60 nickel boxes a year! That's fine though, plenty other treasure to be found.
Yea, not sure what's up with the quarter boxes. I thought at first the box itself was pre-2012, but with the mix of newer dates in the second box that clearly isn't the case. Maybe somebody dumped a very large change jar that they hadn't added to much in the last few years, but really who knows. I'll take one silver per box all day and be darn happy about it.. maybe go out tomorrow and see if there's any similar boxes floating around.

Warming up a little over here in the frozen north, might have to get outside and go dig up some bottle caps. Maybe a few less penny boxes :tongue3:

I have confirmed with my bank that the same person
deposited all the coins in dime box #4, quarter boxes #8, 6, 5. This is the last one. Once I realized
I was regularly getting silver from this guy's deposit, I made sure I got all the rolls/boxes left. Shame I didn't
realize sooner, I'm positive I missed at least some dimes. Additionally the bank says he deposited a bunch of
nickels too, which I never saw. In total I caught 4 silver dimes and 3 silver quarters from this guy's deposit.. I
Probably missed another 1-2 silver dimes and who knows what in nickels. Nothing truly insane, but I did pull
seven silvers from the last five boxes; definitely far above average.
Oh, and I ordered some nic-a-date. It'll be here late this coming week.

It got colder again, so aside from two short trips there wasn't much detecting (although I did well in my limited time). Figured I'd go a little crazy with cent boxes instead. Mighta' gone too crazy :laughing7:
Those'll be coming soon (once I actually finish them all..)

In other news, got my nic-a-date.
Five little dateless buffalos turned into..

1913P type I, 1919P, 1921P, 1929D, 1920X (obliterated mintmark area - scratches)

Learned a few things with this little experiment.. firstly, I used way too much of the nic-a-date. "A drop" is actually too much once it settles and spreads out on the coin. Something to remember next time. Doing something like putting a drop on a Q-tip and spreading it to the date area that way might work better.
The 1913 probably could have been identified without acid use. Whoops! That's an unfortunate way to learn that lesson. Had no idea there was a single-date variety identifiable without a visible date.
Good news is it probably was worth very little either way.

I think the 1913 is the only "slot filler" for me; the rest are all duplicates.

Searched quite a few more penny boxes than usual but somehow didn't end up with anything 'significant'. The nickel box was definitely the highlight of the week. Long post for a long week, but not really anything to show for it. Dare I get this many boxes again this week?

Well, it was looking like a good enough week at the start but sputtered out pretty fast. Ended up with a few treasures in CWRs though. So far looking like 16-22 will be more of the same, the curse of the solid date boxes is strong currently.
