Are High Gas Prices Affecting Your Metal Detecting Hobby ?

Hi Treasure Hunters ! Just wondering if the High Prices of gas are effecting your Metal detecting habits ? Personally i don't travel as often as i use to since the price of gas went up so high. My Dodge Dakota is not the greatest on gas. I purchased a older White's Eagle Spectrum on ebay recently. It works Great, but i do admit it's a heavier than some of the Lighter units like the Newer Tesoro's, Garretts, and Newer White's E-Series detectors. Thinking about checking some Older places in North Wilmington as well as some local parks and playground areas just for the clad and possible jewelery finds. I like to try various Brands of metal detectors and see how they perform. I signed up as a Garrett and Tesoro dealer to. Does anyone know if City parks in Wilmington are off Limits to detectorist ?

Gas prices are affecting my beach detecting but the county parks are getting a workout this year.

Ditto - "The times they are a changin" Sometimes hard to justify a far drive to MD.

The high gas prices forced me to seek ways to increase my MPG
I take L O N G !!! TH'ing/Prospecting Trips (1000s of miles)
I installed, into my '77 Jeep's transfercase, an overdrive unit, that cost me $600 !
Shortly,!
I made a TH'ing Trip to NM, right afterward,
(I live in So.Texas, on the Gulf Coast)
And!
I GOT!
By actual count !
A! 30% increase in MPG!
As you know, you usually read "UP! TO" a certain % increase,
SO!
I was really pleasently surprised to get an actual HUGE (30%) INCREASE

Since that has worked out so well!
I am in the process of installing more devices to further improve my GPMs
I checked my "Summit Racing Catalog" for more "goodies"
I, now have, ready to be intalled, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, carb/cam & headers,
Also, alum. roller rocker arms, variable duration lifters,
And!
I am going to replace my OEM belt driven fan with a big electric one
I ran into this advertisement for "Fitch" Fuel Catalist ?
They're fully warranteed and EPA Approved
So! I bought a set for my Jeep's 360 V8
I don't know much about them
But!
I'll run a Mileage test on them, after the Jeep is back up and running

Oil is rising again so forget any Price drops
when the Gas Refineries go back online.
Just Increases.

Because the refinery owners can't afford to put food on their tables
let alone pay for repairs.

After looking around & researching,
I have decided to buy a & install a 4x4, 700R4, 4 sp auto transmission
"BowTie Overdrives" website, gives some realistic & verified increases of 30+% !
SO!
Come tomorrow, Monday!, (Sep29)
I'll be placing an order for their "built up!", (4x4) "700R4"
& all of the connection "Pieces & parts"!
SINCE!
The price of gas 'ain't' "a go'n, to be a go'n" down much
My "Old" 11 gpm, the original stock FT 4x4 mileage
Now!
With the NEW! OD unit in the transfer case ... It's up to, my present 14 gpm
Then,
It'll be around 19 - 20 mpg!
NOW!
I'll be able to drive around the "West!", Prospecting & TH'ing

Yep - Original 283 bored 30 over. 283's are a great overlooked engine. Seems everyone just dumps a 350 in? You can bore your 283 pretty big if your very careful. Sure would spin some wheels in that S-10 being they are so light. Keep us posted with your project, I would be interested.

I just plan my trips better. I allow more time in my search areas. Instead of 3 or 4 hours at a search spot, I now make it an all day trip. Extra batteries, some lunch, a few extra water bottles. Through search of an area. I now map out "grids" with posts, search each grid, and move my marked out area to the next area. When beach detecting, I make sure I know when low tide is for the beach I'm searching, that way I get the most area available with the tides. Plus I got a Chevy HHR at gets 28 mpg. That helps too.
