Discrimination filters the processed target signal and any filter can have unwanted consequences on the processing of target signals outside of the discriminated range, including the higher conductivity targets you are seeking. Raising discrimination much higher than 10 or 15 could affect depth performance on non-discriminated targets though some people claim that they have had no issues on detecting high conductors raising discrimination as high as 50. If you simply do not want to hear targets with a TID < 30, you might be better off using notch instead which simply suppresses the target audio if it falls within the notch range but does not otherwise affect target signal processing. You will need to go into the expert settings of notch in order to increase the notch width greater than the default. I would suggest using discrimination up to about 10 then setting a notch between 10 and 30. I personally am not a fan of using notches as target IDs are highly variable depending on several factors, but if you really just want to cherry pick and acknowledge you may be leaving some keepers in the ground, then using notch should work. You can also just increase disc and see what happens. Note that depending on what coil and operating frequency you are using, a VDI of 30 and above will still include a LOT of mid-conductors including aluminum, brass and lead. The only thing you are really filtering is iron and some of the smaller aluminum and brass junk. HTH GL.
