Just found a button off the uniform of a soldier who served in a militia of The Coninental Army.

Whoever dropped this was witness to the birth of a nation. 20180407_185713.jpg 20180407_165851.jpg 20180407_195412.jpg

Thanks guys. It was actually the first find of the day. Me and a buddy pulled up, I got out of my truck and grabbed my gear, threw on the headphones and dug it maybe fifteen feet from the truck.

We were on some old Colonial farmland here in New Hampshire. Last year, my buddy dug a GW button at the next farm over. I got to witness that one, as I was not fifty feet away at the time.

I went on to dig a musket ball, a wheatie, two drawer pulls, and a few other odds and ends. Nothing to top the button though, from either of us.

Right after I found the button, my buddy scratches his head and goes, "Man, I can't believe it. I've hunted this field for 6+ hours before. Guess I didn't get everything."

Then in a soft tone, the Equinox whispers up to me, "Damn right he didn't..."

:)

Don't you love the mix we sometimes get? GW button and wheatie in the same patch of land.

Yeah, strange huh? These farms along this road have been family-owned since Colonial times. Those fields have seen generations of people working and playing in them. The field we were at today has given up several Barber dimes as well, according to my buddy. No telling what you'll find.

Just last year, same farm but different field, I found my oldest coin to date. 1738 KGII halfpenny. Some good detecting ground right there.

Great find! You have some nice looking country in the center photo.
Thx Phish. Yeah, it is pretty nice up here in New Hampshire. I'm from them ol' bug-infested swamps down in Louisiana. So I'm not originally from here. Hell, I couldn't even find New Hampshire on a map before I moved here. But now that I'm here, I couldn't see myself living anywhere else.

Well done, sir!
Say a prayer for the man who wore that and for his family. What sacrifices they made so that today we can live here and play with MDs!

Ok, I just found out that this is a militia button, but not from The Revolutionary War. It seems to be from around 1820 or so.

I wasn't trying to mislead anyone, I honestly did not know. This is my first military button, so I'm sure that's understandable. I'm no expert by any means.

Sorry about that...
