Probably a part time carpenter and a part time farmer, but I'd be dreaming about finding enough gold to become a full time prospector.

Been trained in all the skills handed through the family that settled here prior to the 1800's .
To me the most rewarding is rearing ,breaking ,and training a string of draft horses . Holding the ribbons on a 6 horse hitch and driving them "Yankee Style " is a rush you have to experience to appreciate .
Smithing and carpentry are rewarding in their own right as well as viable skills .
So is whiskey making . It is so labor intensive that no lazy man ever made good whiskey. I can make good whiskey.
Given all that ; for that time period I would have been a politician or a 'Chicken Eatin Preacher'.
Either one was being ridden around in someone elses carriage , drinkin other folk's whiskey , takin' their money , and either wiping their lips or buttoning their pants as they laughed all the way to the bank ;D

Would've probably spent more time looking for the mule than gold. LOL

It looks like fly strips and the lattice panels are probably an early version of a ceiling fan seeing as how it appears they have electricity.

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

My ancestors came from France and settled in Quebec province in the 1500's. They farmed and lumbered. They continued in the lumber trades when they became U.S. citizens in the early/mid 1800's.

I guess I would have been in the family business.

Oh! I probably would have gone west as one of the original '49ers.

I can see myself as a mountain man or even an Indian riding those far blue western mountains.

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

Well, my ancestors who lived in this area were either farmers or owned sawmills. I guess I would end up doing either one of those, although I don't think I would make a good farmer. In relation to my actual occupation, perhaps a lawman.

With my luck though, I would probably croak from the flu or something in my early 20's.

I would have wandered around carving miscellaneous crap on rocks, bending trees and making two million turtles on every rock outcropping I could find.

And SWR would walk behind you saying, "You didn't do that, it's all natural".
