    1935 Pontiac ad - Wow!!

I came across this ad in an old city centennial celebration book while I was doing some research. I thought some of you might enjoy it.

I guess you had to read the fine print back then, too. The $615 car only had a six cyl engine. It was over $700 for the eight cyl model. What a rip-off! (and this wasn't a low-priced car!!)

Cars really weren't as good, back then, though.

Regular maintenance was mandatory, and major components both wore out, and broke.

They weren't engineered very well, didn't have cool features like we have now,
and were perilous at higher speeds. In an accident, they were deathtraps.

I like 'em a lot, but know what they are!

Had a '50 pontiac deluxe w straight 8 flathead in it and a 4speed hydro.
1st to 2nd shift was ALWAYS at 10ft.

Mohair interior. Awesome ride... what a plush car.
We bought it used, and broken, real cheap. It came with a good story!

Wish I still had it, too!

    Yes, you're right.

I like flivvers, and packards and Cords, and Duesenbergs.

Now they are all beginning to blend with aerodynamic speed!

Ha! It just dawned on me that we can drive faster than they flew!

Like Cole Palen said on the 'Flight' movie, his grandfather rode a horse and buggy to the airfield to fly away in a Jenny.

    WoW!

Thanks to wind tunnels I cant tell an American car from a Jap car half the time let alone a Chevy from a Ford from a Mopar. I do see why we see price increases in todays cars, back then they had very little in the way of features now we have everything from A/C to rear view camera's not to mention safety features and most new cars now last several times as long as those of the 30,40's, 50's and 60's, its pretty rare to see a newer car rust out. But they did have style, Im more a fan of the 60's era though.

    Ha! Ha!

Remember when they once ran 'drop tanks' on the salt flats?
    and the 'pumpkin seed' bodies?

And then there's the Jag XK E Type... always liked them !

    Speedster Porsche's.

    I like aerodynamic!
