My Mum's older brother died in this tragedy.
Apparently the remains of the ship have been found around 2,000 metres deep.

It was a clearly marked Hospital ship. My Uncle was serving in the Australian Field Ambulance, and if I recall correctly, aged about 20 years.
Here is a pic of him at 19 with my Aunty.

I share the name of both Brothers of my Mother.
I declare, Eternal Peace On Earth.

It's always a sobering thought when they make a discovery like this. That so many back then in WWII
died so easily & so willingly to help defend & preserve the freedoms of millions of others. It deserves to
be a protected & sacred area . It's too bad so many today lack the values & principles of freedom that
so many of that WWII generation viewed as the norm.

Again, Thanks for the comments.
I should have pointed out the fact that my Aunty in the pic, is his sister.

For those interested, my Uncle Mike, brother to the lost Uncle, and two of his sons have just attended a Memorial service, held over the location of the Centaur.
Over 320 relatives of those who perished aboard AHS Centaur, survivor Mr Martin Pash, and military and political dignitaries attended the service held on HMAS Manoora.

Family members had the opportunity to scatter ashes and lay wreaths into the Coral Sea, directly two kilometres above the final resting place of the ill fated ship.
