PHOBIA: from the Greek: φόβος, phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear"

What are some of your phobias and what are they called?
Example: Fear of Friday the 13th=triskadekaphobia.
Mine are-
Fear of rabid animals.
Fear of uncontrolled fire.
Fear of mentally unstable people.

Guess I could go on and on...
Don't know the names of any of these. Yet.

None. Unless there's a phobia for finding a dead pet and having to dig a hole for it... which happens quite regulary around here since we have so many animals. I usually dread going out to feed the dogs, because they're all so old that I never know when I'm gonna find one plopped over. Digging holes in frozen ground is for treasure hunting, not for burying pets.

Autojamphobia: Fear of my gun jamming at the wrong time. That would be the same as bringing a club to a gun fight. NOT a good idea.

I don't guess I have any 'phobias' of a particular thing or things. I have fear to a certain degree of many things. And the person who claims to fear nothing is a fool and is not long for this world.

Revolver.

Of course, that's a possibility. But, "they" haven't made a 15 shot revolver yet. ;D

It's possible in combat situations to fire 6, reload, fire 6 more, reload, fire 6 more, but then you're out. But all done in under 25 seconds. In a lot of the shooting incidents I've seen involving autos, many rounds were just sprayed out there to no effect. A fifteen round clip was emptied, but the guy was only hit twice. Shoot em if you got em, I guess. I came from the group that believed if you couldn't do it in 6 rounds, you probably ought to hang it up and go to the house.

I don't think that I agree with that statement. Fear itself is the killer. Respect and reaction is what keeps you alive. Like FDR said, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself". What's the name for the phobia of being afraid of being afraid?

I know exactly what you mean. My Dad taught me that when you're hunting, don't take more than a half dozen rounds with you because if you can't get something for the table with 6 rounds, you should be a vegetarian. :laughing9:
The reason I choose an automatic over a revolver is it makes logistical sense to me. 15 rounds in the weapon and one 15 round spare clip, gives 30 shots, if needed with just one reload.
The good ole U.S. of A. military taught me NOT to "spray and pray" and I DO hold my pistol in the upright position and NOT in the "gangbanger" side show. :laughing9:

RGINN is absolutely correct in his statement. If you get into a firefight and aren't afraid, you're a fool (and probably dead). The point is to control the fear and channel that adrenalin to help your survival. Anyone who's ever been in combat and says they weren't afraid is lying to you.

One more thing, too. That big talker in the rear area, is usually the first to die when the shooting starts. The quiet guys are the ones to get the job done. Every person who's ever been awarded a combat medal for valor has been the quiet, low profile guy, while in the rear areas.
