What is it with the "Smokey Bear" and "Ask your Dr. questions" commercials? The gov't is apparently spending millions on these ads. The ads are fine, but when you see them EVERY commercial break all day long it gets really irritating. They must run 100's of times a day on multiple channels. It's gotten to the point where I have to mute the TV to maintain my sanity. I actually now hate the people IN the commercials.

It's not fire season. They're ramming Obamacare down our throats, yet are telling us to ask our Dr. questions...duh. Like the country has money to spend on this crap.

Oh they see. They just don't CARE. The average American is either going to directly BENEFIT from it due to handouts or they don't care.
They don't care as long as they have their new house, boats and SUV that they don't own, their box of wine and bigscreen to watch.
We have successfully dumbed down and nerfed America to the point where those who care are "crazy, right wing militia member racists" and the rest just want the free handouts.

Its interesting. The area I live in is fairly affluent. For the most part those around here won't benefit too much if at all. Some of these people just don't see it and if you try to talk to them they just think you are being paranoid, they don't believe you. Maybe it is that they are just fat, dumb and happy. From my experience there is a sizable portion of the public that just don't get it.

First, will somebody please send me the phone number or address where I can get my free 60" television? :laughing7: :laughing7:

Seriously, here, it is mostly the medical stuff - including, TONS of ED commercials, buy this little tickler thing commercials (lots of them recently - they come in a discreet little bag - I wish they'd be discreet about selling them), this lotion for him and her commercials, and, of course, the bodily function commercials like weeping eyes, no weep eyes, weeping butthole, butthole won't work, "feminine creams", and all the other ask your doctors for this pill or this pill, or this pill, you have PAD, you have this or that. That's the bulk of the commercials, 20% dedicated to the products, about 80% dedicated to the "possible side effects" of the products.

The rest of them seem to be made up of lawyers - have you taken this pill - sue, have you taken that pill, sue, have you eaten this, sue, have you sat on this item, sue, have your kids picked this up, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue.

This is the reason why people who REALLY have been injured cannot get a fair break.

Drives me nuts. And - like was already said ---- they are SO darned loud. (someone told me they do it so that when you leave the room during the commercial to go to the bathroom or get a snack that you can still hear them - I believe that)

I say this every day. Here it going- Why can't they make separate channels ESP for commercials? one for cooking, toys, car parts,ECT.? Just cancel your cable and get on Youtube hook up to the TV and watch commercial free movies and TV. I know I hooked up to the big screen and watch episodes of Operation Repo and I was about to cry,. Know why? NO COMMERCIALS! I find tons of movies split into parts but it's easy and it's free.

If you're healthy and your job pays for your insurance. All is well. But if you have a previous ailment and you then get insurance, forget it. That needs to change.
Executives that make millions a year from denying you coverage based on the smallest errors. That needs to change.
Do you not think that they have a huge task force that do nothing all day but find ways to NOT provide coverage? They do have these. That needs to change. It's called health care, not health care denied.
Can you imagine being given the incentive where the more people that die, the more money you make?

Here's an imaginary scenario; Lets take a CEO of an insurance company and all the sudden, he decides that instead of him and the other executives getting paid millions, they instead decide to make a realistic income.... say 250K a year. And with all the money that this company saves, they turn it into lowering insurance costs, and stop declining people for procedures.

Would you think this CEO was a bad person or a hero.

There are ways to fix the insurance industry. It's easy to point the figure and say "Gub-ment aint gonna touch my health care". Insinuating that the government does horrible things. I agree, they do. But most of it is because the lobbyists for big insurance are writing the very laws that are claiming to protect us. You see, it's rigged.

Why can't we really fix the insurance situation. WHY? It ain't gonna happen. The government is too incorporated at this point. Will we be the next Rome?

The problem never really hit's home until the problem hits home.

You know - it USED to be that commercials paid for television. With original satellite dishes (remember those huge ones), the screen would go black/blank, when commercials were on.

Then, satellite TV started running the commercials. Then cable started having commercials. Then, recently, the local channels you got on your television had to be paid for separately. Just recently, they took all local tv programming out of our Dish TV - compliments of the FCC.
Then, they made it so you had to upgrade your television and whatever else, so you could get digital TV. Then, I had to pay my cable company for local programming (so now I have Dish AND cable).

NOW, they want to take away even the "free in the air" programming.

So, we have paid commercials, the programming has gone to "hell in a hand basket" (after 1 or 2 am, its 90% paid programming - ie, full length commercials (they don't take breaks for commercials in them), paid TV, paid local channels (just throw that antenne out the door), the commercial time has become much longer - a one hour show is really about 22 minutes long, all the "special" stations that you pay extra for re-run the same programming all month long, people had to switch over to digital or get new tv's, AND free tv will be gone.

I smell a racket with kickbacks.

A long time ago I used to work as a cable TV installer. I knew that free broadcast stations always want to charge cable companies to re-broadcast there stuff, and cable companies didn't want to pay because it was 'free' anyways. It's what's called a lose-lose situation. A 'standoff' if you will. You see, if cable companies refuse to pay FOX, the advertisers will withdraw there advertisements from FOX and they will lose ad revenue. So FOX really needs the be on air no matter what (but they also want money). The other side of the coin, is that cable companies realize that people want their FOX programs, and will be upset with cable, and might go somewhere else to get there locals.

But, in the end, it's the cable companies that have the upper hand, because they know that people will always have cable TV.

I've never paid for cable in my life. It might be because I know how much cable companies mark up their fees. They could sell it to you for $5 a month and still make a profit. In fact, that's actually what they do when they overpower a smaller competitor. They rent the telephone poles for about $4 a pole to stretch their cable, right next to the 'other' cable company, and charge very little to customers. Then the customers move over to the cheaper company, putting the smaller company out of business. Once there's no competition anymore, rates go way up. That's how we did it... a long time ago.

//hijack on

What I don't understand, is when people say, "NOT". Like, "I really enjoyed that speech..... NOT".

I hate the Guy with the Crap eating Grin !

Talk about an uncalled for commercial !

And what about the Commercial Showing Poor kids
in Africa or someplace.
The Commercial must last at least 3 Full Minutes
while she tells a Story about the Kid.

AH If he's so Bad off Why arn't the TV crew & Her
Doing something for him instead of asking others to.

And also that SPCA Commercial where they play Sad music to
make it look like some Dogs are Sad, While they
try to make the Kids Beg their Parents to send money in.
why don't they tell the truth they paid $10,000 for the Commercial
And need Money For Gas to put the Old dogs
to sleep. because they won't let anyone have them.

The Insurance Company Commercial where you
"Name your own Price ? "

Bet If I Contact them and say
get me a Policy for $12.00 a year they Cant !
Bet they can't even match the $24 a month
for auto insurance I'm paying now.

HOW the F did this thread morph from stupid commercials that are 'filler' ads to this?
You people scare me.

Really? Seriously?

Come and work on MY side of this equation, 'k? How would YOU handle FCC public file requirements?

Oh and making sure YOUR employees were paid...put yourself in the shoes of a media outlet owner, for fun anyway.

I'd like to see what YOU would do.
