Ocean, lake, river, or pool?

Thankfully living on the coast we are afforded the option of several swimming venues. Whether you like the ocean side, lakefront, river, or a good old fashion pool, we have all these options available to us. Depending on were you are living, some may not have access to some of the best ways to spend a summer day.

For each of these areas, you have the opportunity to perhaps explore a new hobby like sailing, surfing, or water skiing. For me, nothing beats the the feel of a canoe running down a good set of rapids. I doubt I would do what I did when I was young, but at least I got the chance to try all of the above.
I'm just curious, has anyone here never been to the ocean?

olden days it was a 'long ways' on foot or horseback to the ocean.....
now you can get there lickety-split!

remember the old movies when people would be on a quest to get to an ocean just to see it!
