Spart, I would venture a guess that most of these guys had a better grasp on the meaning of life than the average guy has today. These guys dealt in ideas. Take the picture below. most see it as a fresh rose setting on a slab of ice. In reality, the rose is silk, the ice is plastic and the backgrount is white mulberry paper. So we usually see what we want to see in life, not what is actually there. These guys had the ability to see beyond the image of life. Frank

Way back when,there was no set way to spell,everybody spelled words the way they sounded.Therefore everybodies spelling wasnt essentially the same.

Well the one in particular is a heterograph, and there are several that are always misused.. As far as language dates back, there has always been a set way to spell, otherwise your dictionary would be 4 times its size Oh, as for the spelling in general, our language is made up from Latin, French, Germanic, and Greek for the most part and they had a grip on spelling centuries ago So there is no need to look back 200-400 years ago and say things were different, not so.

Since we're venturing guesses, I'll guess that anyone that has any ability to think has a grasp on the meaning of life
