5 years ago there were 13,087 yellow cabs on the road in New York City, plus over 40,000 other for-hire vehicles, such as town cars and executive cars, all regulated by the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

with that many, does anyone make money ?

Dunno- I hear NY is overcrowded and if I go there I will become part of the problem, not the solution.

I can't imagine living in that environment-

I've been there! It was a cool experience! There are more people walking around than you would think! It's a crazy place! We were walking around the city at 3am and there was still people everywhere! So, ya I believe it!

Yep, I took my daughters there about 10 years ago for vacation, absolutely loved it. The city DID NOT sleep! We walked everywhere, except in the times we took the subway just for the experience.

I accidentally Got off the highway after Crossing a Bridge once, on my way to Long Island.

I can only Guess I was in the Garment District headed east
As I remember seeing a Street sign that said 5th ave & what ever street I was on,
there were racks of Clothing & Tractor Trailers everywhere.

Ended up going though a tunnel & eventually followed My nose from there to LI & Nassau Coliseum.

the only other time was a boring school class trip to west point & some place that
had allot of Monks I think ( Monastery ? brown robes, wouldn't talk ? )
forgot 99% of that day :tongue3:

I was born and raised in NYC and work here and yes they do make money. Hard to even flag one down.

Worldwalker...NYC was the worst in the 70's but Rudy cleaned it up and got rid of the riff raff and XXX joints in TQ ....quality of life clean up and it has been carried over to each new (Mayor) administration . New Mayor is a commie socialist .

As for me , I can't wait to leave. I'm so tired of the hustle and bustle and fast pace, high taxes and the douchebag politicians.

It's a great place to visit for sure ,sights..food..shopping..Broadway. I can always visit a few times a year to see a play or shop . I'll miss the food the most..we have great restaurants of every cuisine you can imagine. Funny thing is my friends who already left miss the food also..they miss the simple things like great cheesecake..knishes..Nathans hotdogs and fries ..bread / pastry ( NY water = great bread/pastry ) and the boardwalk.

Had a fun childhood growing up here ,but I'm done !

Seems to me if you hail a Taxi they would wreck trying to beat each other for the Fare
the way they appear to travel in large packs :tongue3:

Nah.. usually most have a customer already . At airports and Penn station they line up and you just jump into the next one in line.

What you need to worry about is driving in NYC and Taxis cutting you off. They are some of the worst and dangerous drivers and most don't speak English . Most use GPS, because they don't even know their way around NYC . If they don't have GPS they ask you for directions . Clowns !

Some of them stink to no end and look just dirty. There's a push here to get them to wear uniforms and keep a neat appearance, due to complaints. Taxi drivers are fighting it. I despise them and haven't use them for over 20 years.

Read this, it irks me so much .

I refuse to give them a single dime of my money in taxes of any kind.... Just another liberal socialist state.
