The other day in Los Angeles, a sewer main broke near UCLA. As of yesterday (7/31), about 20,000,000 gallons of water have been lost.

A man called Channel 7 News claiming to be from LADWP (Los Angeles Dept of Water and Power). Wanting to be the first with the news, they didn't vet this guy like most would. Maybe, when he told them his name was Flung Poo, a red flag should have popped up (but it didn't). They put the guy on live TV News, and the conversation went something like this:

Reporter: With us, we have a representative of LADWP, Mr Slung Poo. Mr Poo, do you have any idea exactly what caused the sewer main to break?

Mr Flung Poo: Well, we have it narrowed down to two possibilities. Either a cherry bomb in the pipe or someone took a really big dump!

Reporter: stammer, stammer, trying to find something to say, stammer stammer

It was about this time that the producers realized they had been pranked and cut off Mr Poo.

Later that evening, Mr Poo called the Tim Conway Show to tell his side of the story. He said that he was sitting around with some buddies watching the news report about the sewer main break, and he thought he would try and prank call the News Station. Conway asked the guy what kind of job he had that he could sit around with his buddies at 4 in the afternoon. Mr Poo said that he was a Fireman (and his name is not Poo)! HAHAHAHAHA

All that embarrassment could have been avoided if they hadn't been in such a rush to be first with the news. All they had to do would be to get Mr Poo's extension at LADWP or verify his name while they had him on the phone.

This story is 100% true, and makes me like Firemen all the more!
