So last week after my better half finally yelled enough..I went to a optometrist to have my eyes checked. I have never worn glasses in my life, and well apparently my eyes over the years did indeed start to go bad, I never noticed to be honest.
So anyways fast forward to today, my new fancy raybans came in and...HOLY COW!!!!I had no idea just how bad my vision had become.
With them on everything is like ultra high definition! I lifted them up after a few seconds and was amazed at how blurry everything is without them!..I'm both happy and sad, I'll now say why.

Question number one.
Why does the ground and everything seem like I am inches tall ? I feel like I'm a foot tall and it looks that way also!

Question two.
Is it normal to stand in front of say a wall and it seems like the wall is tilted away from me ? I noticed it while looking at a picture that the painting and wall seem further away at the top than the bottom.

last question, will these things stop after some time ? I'm guessing my mind needs to adjust.

I appreciate any replies...even old coot ones lol.

Mike, I got my first pair of glasses when in the 5th grade. Wore them all through high school. Then didn't need them for several years. But as I grew older, I began to need them again. I can see pretty well what's 'out there'; but not what I try to read or the computer monitor. I have very little correction in the upper lenses of my bifocals. The lower lenses are about 2.25 with some astigmatism adjustment. Ok, I can do without them when not trying to see something close, like reading. But I didn't want to have to pull out a pair of glasses every time I wanted to read a label, see the monitor, etc. So with the bifocals, I put them on when I get up, and I pull the off when I go to bed.

As for the distance, tilt, etc. problem, you'll get used to that before long. I'm the same way. The more I wear the glasses and not taking them off a lot, the less the problem is.

Your mind will adjust to the changes. Your eyes are finally seeing clearly and the mind just has to adjust to the new distractions and compensate for the new environment. It'll happen every time you get a new set of glasses or prescription but the effect will be less each time and your recovery will increase as well. Get in the habit of putting your glasses in the same spot before bed or when ever you have to take them off~ its hard to find them if you can see them ;)
Enjoy the new world eh? :)

I put on my first set back in '86. My first sight coming out of Pearle Vision center was a funnel cloud hovering over a mobile home park in Colorado~ a rare sight indeed. I also saw several more as my friend and I rode our bikes back home that day. It was a rush and riding a bike and actually being able to see.... well I got over being disoriented pretty quickly.

Well I forgot what may be the most important thing, the doc told me I have cataracs !! at my age..he said that's very unusual so the left eye is bad and surgery will correct it, right is not bad enough for surgery yet he said..and that's why everything is blurry, I can see fine, just blurry.

what really sucked was, the glasses were almost 600 bucks, then again I don't have any insurance so that does not help.

Mike
When you had the eye exam, to get glasses...they should have easily seen the cataracts.
Nowadays cataract surgery can be as fast as 10 minutes! They do sell "natural" cataract removal drops, but they cost a lot...and it takes a few months to see results. Trust me...anyone...if your vision starts to go, get to the doc! I waited a month after i was told go see a retina specialist, found out I had a severely detached retina! Now that eye is pretty much useless, Do not wait!

I got glasses after 25 years in contacts and I have very poor vision (-8.00). After I got them I sat in the parking lot for 20 minutes before I got the nerve to drive!

Watch yourself on stairs and curbs especially for a while, your depth perception will be off!

Eventually you won't even notice you're wearing them!

I have had a pair for 5 years now and I am still adjusting. But I usually only wear them when I am reading or arrowhead hunting.I should probably wear them all the time because I can see so much more detail with them, but they mess with my peripheral vision, so I don't wear them as often as I should. I know what you mean about feeling inches tall.Last time I went artifact hunting I wore them all day long, which I am not use to doing, and when I took them off ,man I was doing some 'high steppin",I felt like I was about 5 feet taller. But all that you described sounds normal.Just takes some getting use too!Nice glasses:thumbsup:they look to fit you well.joe

Mike, cataract surgery is almost nothing now a days. My mother-in-law had one eye done, then about 2 months later the other. She was 'legally' blind in one and really close to being the same in the other. After the surgery she had '20/20' vision! The doctors had been telling her for several years that glasses weren't going to help as bad as her eyes were; but 'doctors don't know everything'. She was 81 years old at the time, and dementia was getting pretty bad. After the surgery, the doctor had to give her a prescription for 'reading glasses' because she just couldn't see the fine print. He gave her a pair that was clear glass. She was satisfied after that.
After the early morning surgery, my daughter and son-in-law took her by a fast food joint for a late breakfast. The eye was bandaged so they had to read the menu for her. After the next surgery, they went to the same place. With the one repaired eye not bandaged, and the newly repaired one bandaged, she was able to read the menu herself. She was so thrilled.

Well, I just had the lens replaced in one eye. The operation takes 15 min but they num your eyes with drops before hand. No pain afterwards either. Here's a tip, get the antithesis to put you to sleep, not just make you groggy. That is unless you like to watch someone stick a knife in your eye.
They breakup the old lens with a microwave needle, then they suck it out with a vacuum needle. Then they cut a slit and drop in the new lens.
If you don't wait to long to have the operation, your sight might be good the next day. If you wait years to have the operation done, it will take weeks or months for the sight to return properly. You might not need glasses after a lens replacement.
Don't put off the operation!

Near sighted glasses make things smaller
Farsited glasses make things bigger.

I PMed Mike yesterday about this. I've been getting my eyes examined, getting the 'script, then going on line to order my glasses. I've bought 5 pair from this company and have been extremely pleased with what I got and even more pleased with the prices. I'm now wearing a pair of rimless bifocals, gold colored trim, scratch resistant lenses, UV protection, tinted, etc.. I paid less than $60, including shipping. I bought my first pair about 3, maybe 4 years ago for under $20 and was so pleased that I ordered another pair like them, but different colored frames for a spare. Next order was for two pair that were under $70. They'll throw in a pair of clip on shades that match the frames for an extra $3.50. Don't know if I can post the name of the company on the forum; but if anyone is interested, just PM me. Also they have on their website a place you can upload a picture of your face, then try different frames on to see how you look.

All that hype my mom "USED" to tell me about eating carrots will keep your eyes in good shape was all nothing but a "LIE" I tell ya!

I do love carrots, but I realized a few years ago it jsut sucks getting old! My eyes are good, but for reading it has sucked over the years! When you can normally hold a book close to read, then you have to hold it a little further away, then a little further away, and then when you have to hold what you want to read at arms length and still can't read it, it is time to get your eyes checked!

Of course sitting at the computer for teh last couple of years I would wear reading glasses because the screen was always a little blurry.

I used to get the old Wal Mart cheapo reading glasses last year just for reading. Now it is at the point I had to get my eyes checked because everything I would have to read upclose I was having to get another set of reading glasses.

So 5 months ago I went to get an eye exam, and yes, found out I need reading glasses. My insurance paid for 1 pair and I got another pair as a spare set and it cost me $99!

Even on the weapons range now I am having a little hard time getting accurate siting and seeing targets clearly without glasses, especially at 250 meters plus! Oh, how this sucks big time!

My dad was the only one in the family that had to start wearing glasses by the time he was 55, as his father did as well, and guess what? It looks like I will be wearing them all the time by the time I get that age as well!

I thought about laser surgery but I know people that had it done and had to get it redone a few years later. Contacts? I don't know if I want to screw around with those either!
