As I've said in other posts, I drank very little until about 7 years ago. Since then I've been trying just about everything that's in the local liquor store. My last 25+ working years were pretty well 24/7/365 on call. I won't drive after I've had even a swallow of anything with liquor in it. So I very seldom drank before I retired.
The time to start drinking? Depends. Occasionally I will mix a drink about 2:30 p.m., but seldom. Most time it's between 4 and 6 p.m., if I drink that day. I've been cutting back a bit. The old belly is getting too big. I need to cut back a bit on eating also.

Anytime is a good time in my eyes. So long as it does not interfere with going to work, or completing daily tasks!

I drink whenever I can find Guinness on tap. Never too early too start when meeting up with a friend I haven't seen in a while. Never a good time when wife and child are around. I never turn down a drink to friendship. Nothing soothes sore wounds like sharing a common lubrication.

You all surely already know that nobody here who has a drink for breakfast, before noon, etc, is ever gonna say it here to the world.

McKinney, my brother-in- law and I went deer hunting. This was in about 1982. We spent the night in the pickup camper in bedrolls. It was cold. Got up the next morning just before daybreak. I grabbed a package of cookies and a container of water. He grabbed a beer. He got out to relieve himself, took a swallow of beer and gagged. He took another swallow and gagged again. The third time, he up-chucked what he had already drank. Finished his 'business', zipped, and got back into the pickup camper. He told me he really needed to stop the beer until after he had eaten something. I don't know if he stopped drinking before eating something, but later he was told that his liver was almost gone and his stomach wasn't going to take the beer much longer. So he switched to straight whiskey. About 6 months later he died at the age of 54.
