Trying to ID a makers mark

I have a piece of jewelry that came to me from my great-aunt. She in turn got it from her great-aunt. That puts the piece at the early to mid 1800's. It's in remarkable condition (I wear it all the time), and the gold band is barely scratched. Its a garnet ring, set in a 4 stone diamond shaped pattern, with a plain gold band. Inside the band is ONLY a makers mark. No 14k or anything. Just a mark saying w, then a W that's inset and a w. I have searched dozens of websites with makers mark descriptions and can't find any info at all about it. Has anyone ever heard of a ring JUST having a makers mark and nothing else?

There is a book that identifies all registered hall marks. The Enoch Pratt library in Balto. has one. See if you can reach them on line. Frank
