my smoking area was on the stairs at the rear or the gym,
in the closet where they kept the rarely used gym equipment,
like vintage parallel bars etc.

Hmmm. Maybe they can utilize that space for 'cell phone areas' now and keep them all penned up. :laughing9:

I took carpentry and all the shop teachers smoked while we were in class. My carpentry teacher smoked a pipe. It was normal back then. Students back then had to get permission from their parents to smoke at school in the designated area.

I graduated in 1986

class of '73 .

Only teachers were allowed to smoke, but most of the teachers were cool
as long as they were not seen letting you smoke by one of the un-cool.
in other words don't back them into a corner where they had to rat on ya.

I still hated 99% of my teachers, though I was able to Become invisible when in a room with them. and still get passing grades.

and although I'm ok with teachers I know personally
through relatives & friends, I Still detest the Profession for the most part.

(Brain Molding :sadsmiley:)

Graduated in 1975, back then it was a rural high school outside of Houston. Now it's part of the suburbs. Designated smoking area was outside on a grassy area. Hmmmm, wonder if there are any coins there? Great throw back video Mojjax!

There wasn't any designated area in my school, but everyone puffed whenever they were outside.

I didn't smoke then, didn't start until I was in my mid 20's [bad move, I know]

First year of ninth grade... were different than the 2nd and 3rd year of ninth grade... JK

:P

Anyway... I remember first year you could smoke... basically anywhere...
Second year of high school they had designated area...
third year... no smoking BUT you could possess cigarettes...

And finally... nada... nothing... no possess or smoking permitted on school grounds.

My Mother smoked Kents , back in the early 70's - She would give me note , and send me to the store , on my bike . The note said , she wanted a pack of Kents , with her Signature . I got them for her - I was 14 .

.35 cents a pack from a non school vending machine ( with a free pack of matches) in early jr. high to smoke on the football field at lunch.
A friends dad drove truck and we got cartons for two bucks.
A friend who lived about a hundred yards from jr. high school would have his brother park his other car in the yard halfway in between.
Run to car ,then to house at lunch. Play records and pool and smoke. Relay back to jammed school door.

Graduated in 79 and high school had a wooded trail beyond a parking area well attended.
Cars were used during foul weather , but ya ; folks reeked that way.

The smoking areas at the high school, the back of the plane, the back of the bus. Smoking in hospital rooms so long as no one was oxygen, ashtrays on every table in restaurant. Sitting with my friends watching the first tv news that smoking was bad for health. A lot has changed in the last 50 years.

I remember when that song was fairly new. Late at night I could pick up WCKY, Cincinnati, OH, which had Hilbilly music.
XERF, I think, from Del Rio, TX was another I could get in Atlanta back in the '40's.
