A miner friend of mine was burning trash one day and accidentaly tossed in a blasting cap. Thats how he came by the nickname "Duck".

We didn't get yelled at for throwing dirt,
I think it was road aples we threw on the smudgpots.

We sure were ornery.

I think it was road aples we threw on the smudgpots.

I lived on the top of a hill, with a lake at the bottom. Soooooooo many times there'd be smudge pots at the bottom of the hill 'cuz the pond had overflowed. I remember sitting there (it was sandy from all the wash-overs) and slowly letting the sand fall from my hands trying to get it right on the flame to smother it and put it out. Never did. Seems I could NEVER smother it out before somebody's mother would yell..........lol back then mothers mothered the whole neighborhood.
