Been following this, and was sad to hear they likely won't
be replacing it.

Arecibo was a huge asset for the radio astronomy world,
and I do hope that someone will fund an equally impressive
radio telescope. The cost to replace Arecibo in today's dollars
would be astronomical (so to speak).

I'm sure it will be missed in some of the scientific community when it comes to the astronomy world. Interesting discoveries that is timelined in the link.
