Please dumb it down for my friends
I tried to explain what the falling dollar means to my co-workers but I'm just not getting thru to them. Could someone lay it out on a third grade level for me so I can tell them what the country is going thru. Perhaps some worst case scenarios, too. Thanks in advance!

Immy, tell them it means that people won't be able to afford the 1-2 X a month junkets. Thus, the casinos are going to put in automated blackjack/craps machines and layoffs would then be inevitable. lol

Already happening stoney. There's a city-wide slowdown that's not talked about much in the media. And it started in January when gas was still below $3.

But they don't understand why, BB. It's a chore explaining it in terms that don't ellicit blinking stares of confusion.

Well said.

Maybe they should have used Barney and friends. A purple dinosaur would be recognized for sure.

Re: Please dumb it down for my friends
It means that a barrel of oil (value of the dollar is but one factor) or an ounce of gold costs more dollars than it used to.
American goods, such as hollywood movies and .....and.....( I can't think of anything else we manufacture) will be easier to sell overseas because they will cost fewer euros, yen, etc. We will likely see more foreign tourists because their vacation money will buy more here than it will in Europe.
If you want to buy a rifle manufactured in Belgium you will have to pay more dollars for it, because it takes more dollars to equal a euro. If you want to buy a camera made in Japan you will have to pay more dollars for it. If you want to import saltpetre from Chile to make fertilizer it will cost more dollars. Anything we buy on the world market will cost more dollars. Anything we sell on the world market will cost fewer euros, yen, wan, etc.

Re: Please dumb it down for my friends
Try this example. A year ago you were in Canada, say for examples sake at that time that a dollar US was = to a dollar Canadian and a can of soda cost a dollar there. With your US dollar being of the same value as the Canadian dollar you could buy one can of soda.
But lets says that a US dollar is now worth .50 on the Canadian dollar and the can of soda in Canada still costs a dollar Canadian. Now it is going to take TWO US dollars to buy the 1 dollar can of soda in Canada (2.00 american x .5 relative value to Canadian = one dollar Canadian).
Hope this helps.

Re: Please dumb it down for my friends
Opinions will vary on what the most devasting effect would be.It is difficult to dumb down something this complex. But for what it's worth..you could tell them how mexican worker's can come here and work, picking tomatos, for about 2 months and make five thousand US dollars. When they go home, that five thousand dollars trades out to fifty thousand pesos.Much better value in their nations market. Now,imagine that it is us trying to work in Mexico so we can do the same thing. They should get that.
