Hi all:

It has been terribly dry here as we seem to be missing all the rain so I haven't hunted any yards. Our neighbor first got me interested in MDing when he loaned us his detector 2+ years ago. We've always talked about hunting together and today it finally happened. He is not a die-hard MDer like all of you :icon_pirat: but he is a great resource as he grew up in this county, unlike myself.

We hit an old home his uncle was born in back in 1908. Relatives lived here as recently as the early 90's and he told me (amazingly!) that the house has never had an inside bathroom, only a privy. I find that incredible. The yard wasn't mowed but we hunted our best in the grass. Denny got the first coin of the day, a 1943 war nickel. We found a bit of clad and a few relics. My best find was a little baby spoon in nice condition that can only be described as "cute." :)

We didn't find a lot but vowed to return next spring when the weeds are down. I've decided these country homes are my favorite hunting grounds. I think only three cars drove past during the three hours we hunted. It was fun to be back in my preferred MDing habitat!

HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne

Outside privy, makes me think of what my dad told me of, he was born in 28'
and when he was a youngster they used to as a practical joke move
peoples outhouses,so that the hole in the ground, would be right in front
of the outhouse door. and then people would late at night, having to go,
fall in. My dad told me quite a few stories that made me think of the
Bowery Boys.

Congrats on some nice finds and frames of mind.Think you might bottle/relic
hunt at that privy site.

Good luck,
HH.

Great hunt for sure Anne  I know what ya mean on the dry soil for sure, that's mainly why I've been hitting them excavated spots out in Battle Creek cause digging in parks ruins the grass wherever you dig. There is one spot in Milham park here in Kalamazoo where the soil is wet that's huntable, it's where I found that gold bullion (near the creek) but I combed the area pretty good and had to move on.

good hunt Anne!, looks like a good place to go back to in the spring. I know what you mean about avoiding yards because of it being so dry, same here. glad you were able to get out and enjoy the seclusion of a old country road.

At least you had a bathroom to utilize on this hunt :laughing9:. That looks like a great place to break out the DR mower. Mow that one to the dirt and then start detecting. I am glad to hear that it was remote and that the "pressures" of onlookers didn't break your concentration detecting. As Michiganne always says...keep digging! ;D

Anne,
Nice bunch of stuff! Looks to me that you both need to go back there in the fall when the grass is down, There has to be a lot more. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:
