This is a drum dental bone ("os dentale") from the river. Drum is a saltwater group of fish, but many saltwater species enter freshwater rivers. I've encountered snook, striped bass, a shark, stingray . . . even a sea robin in freshwater rivers here in Florida.

I love fossils, did you find this or buy it?

I found it along with other fish and mammal fossils. Here's another fish fossil - a pair of spines that were still articulated when found.
