For the fossil(banded layers) you might do some research for stromatolites in Missouri.

dang this is an old thread!! i was digging around in the garage and found this rock again, but didnt remember what i ever found out about it. the object in question is not the banded rings or the other crustations throughout the rock. i am wondering about the 5 1/2" bone going through the rock. you can see the edge of it running through the rock and the pourous ends on each side. any thoughts?
