But this appears to be silver plate by the hallmarks. Darn

Silver plate, depending on the maker and the object, will sell for a good price sometimes. This would have been one of those times. By the way it's an egg cup holder. If you had the cups and spoons, it would be worth a pretty good penny! Go back and see if she has the rest of it.

I was gonna say... The appearance of the item is silver plate, IMO. Really like the Beatles postcard!
