Antique Chinese Jade & Gold Ring

Hey everyone:

Here is a recent garage sale find if mine. I picked up this nice 14k gold and Jade ring for $10. It is hallmarked in Chinese and is also stamped 14k (not pictured). It weighs approx. 7 grams. I believe this to be Chinese export for the North American market as 24k gold jewelry is the standard there.

Can anyone read the Chinese hallmarks? Any info on maker and possible value would be appreciated.

That is a nice looking ring! Sorry, I cannot help at all on the ID's. Chinese marks are a mystery to me but I did see some for different assay offices under Chinese Hallmarks on the 925-1000 web site. Maybe it is an assay mark? Good luck, hope someone can ID it for you.

That's a great find even if you never find any info on the mark. I'd also have the stone graded. If it's a very sought after type of Jade it could be worth a bundle. I would think not knowing much on it other then it being a gold ring made in China maybe 75 years ago ? and heck it could be over a 100 years old??. It should have a value in my opinion doing around $450.00 - $500.00 on eBay. I do think I'd look in to the cost of having a good estate jeweler appraise it. My local guy charges $80.00, but I do know a fellow in the mountains that's a certified Gemologist and he'll just give me a his opinion for free as he's an honest buyer of fine jewelry. I've never asked him a price of a written appraisal.

Yeah, that's a $500 ring if it's a dime. I'm not sure about the 24k thing but it looks like at least 18k. I would think 24k would be too soft to use for a setting of that size. I usually only see 24k in plain wedding bands. I agree it should be appraised by a pro. It could be worth a lot more than $500 if the stone is "right".

I can't help with the Chinese marks, their all Greek to me. Nice ring and I think you should do very well with it.

Believe it or not, I have actually gotten information about pieces from my local Chinese restaurant. The lady that owns the restaurant has collectibles throughout the place. Might be an idea for you.
