Today's GOODWILL Fare - Gold and Collectibles Library

So today I dropped my husband and oldest son off for some fishing. I needed to go to the We Buy Gold place and scrap some odds and ends from my Friday auction.

Afterwards, I decided to check out the local sales. THANK GOD for yard sale apper!!!! Anyway, went to two separate places and they were both done (seriously folks, I know it's Sunday, but it's only 1 PM).

So, per norm, I checked out any thrift stores in the area - GOODWILL in particular.

Found a few pieces of unique costume and a signed 14K gold circle pin.

The flower pin tests positive for at least 10k though it is not marked. Just seems a bit hard when I use my stone for the acid test - any ideas why?

Then my little guy wanted to ride on a bouncy horse for sale in the store, and I checked out the books just two feet away.

Much to my surprise I spotted two totes filled to the brim with collectibles books. Sometimes I just get tired of searching the internet and a good book (especially one with color photos) better fits the bill.

Each hard cover $0.97 and each soft cover $0.47. HAS to pay for itself with one good correct ID!!

FYI, for anyone who happens to watch the TV show DIGGERS, my son now calls himself "the Carp Master". Photos of two of his catch also provided!!

when i saw your son fishing all i could think about is,is he looking for arrowheads, surely you should find him an arrowhead book.

Oh man! What a HAUL! I need that Warman's, and I refuse to buy them. My library only has one old copy.
The first picture with the brooches, the dog, fish, and deer .. I think that the dog and fish are in one of the Warman's books.

LOL, looks like the books on one of my bookshelves. Nothing better than books for references on collectibles. The prices aren't realistic but the information contained within is priceless. I gave away a box full myself last year, ones that I had the newer revised editions for. I put an ad on CL in the free section and they were snatched up within the first 30 minutes of hitting the curb.
As for the carp. That was the first fish I learned how to catch properly. I was maybe 9-10 years old and used to go fishing at the dam Lake Accotink in N. Va.. Every week I would watch the same Chinese guy pull out large 10-20 pound carp consistently. I couldn't catch one to save my life. He taught me how to rig my line with a small hook and no weight and gave me the recipe for his cornmeal doughballs. After that I was hooked. I became the carp master myself. I never acquired a taste for them but the local Asian population loved them. I used to sell them for $3-$5 each. Good times.

He's had a fishing pole in his hand almost before he could walk. Our favorite is trout fishing - great here in PA. We used to have guys come from the other side of a pond just to comment on his casting talent. He can cast a mean one!

Thanks for the info. The deer/dog (?) and fish are both signed Schrager on the reverse. The pieces don't seem to sell terribly well on eBay, but honestly I'm not seeing any close to the dog.

My dad's cousin owns a large plot of land in ADAMS county PA (just outside of Gettysburg ). We were metal detecting there when my hubby found his first coin - a very early large cent. Apparently, before it was a farm (I'm talking WAY before) the area was a Native American camp. We were all checking the creek beds for arrow heads. Well, it's more of a stream from a spring, but whose counting!!

Aside, my husband is 75% Native American. We've been trying to track down more info and hope to get more soon through a half brother he never knew he had. He lives in the Albany NY area, and we've planned to visit him for the first time ever later this month. He also metal detects and has opened up for is to detect on his land when we get there.

Brandon (son) has his own "mini" Bounty Hunter that the Easter bunny brought for him last years. He LOVES the hunt!
