A Book from Franz Kafka's Personal Library?

Hey everyone:

I was flipping through a book that I had purchased a few years ago. I purchased it for $2. It's in German and I thought it may have some value but found out its worth about $40 to $50. A decent score.

I was planning on listing it on ebay but decided to google the label people paste into books belonging to them. I google F. Kafka. Cool, I thought, doubt it's his, flipped through a couple more pages and found "Franz Kafka" in ink. I think its a personalized stamp that he used to mark his property. I don't think its a signature, I could be wrong though. Some parts of it are similar to his signature.

I found a few articles about Franz Kafka's personal library and I have to contact an expert on the subject.

What do you think this books value will be if it in fact belonged to him? An exciting find nonetheless.

This is interesting, and definitely worth the expert evaluation.

My (somewhat uneducated) thoughts are that it is either from a school or institutional library dedicated in Franz Kafka's name (the stamp with the F. Kafka and bird gives me that impression), or that the "Franz Kafka" stamp is indeed his (it would not be unusual for someone who did clerical work as Kafka did to have this kind of stamp), and the sticker was added by some institution cataloging his personal library. The engraved stamp is what throws me, since I don't think he would have personally affixed something like this to his books.

you may have a gem there. try and contact the place that bought the books, or even the author of the article. but it was written over 30 years ago. don't ebay that book. there are high end auction houses that might list this if you have authentication.

Personal library labels were common in days past. There are people who collect boons from famous libraries and personal stickers. I think you have something.
