I leave the house this morning to go to the consignment store. Called one GW, no jar. Call the other one closer to my house on a lark ... yeah, they have a jar, she just put it out a few minutes before. Clerk says, Must be something good inside, she has it marked $55. Oh man, I turned around, and went there. Yeah, there was some gold in there. The single earring is 14K and the rest is 10K. The heart set is marked CZ, bummer, but I still figure I can make my money back on it.

After sorting through the jar, I make it to the consignment store. As they are looking at my stuff, I noticed two trays with new jewelry. I asked if they priced it yet; she was just doing it. She tells me, there are two 14K gold things in there and some stuff from St. Johns. They are all marked $48. One was a pair of earrings; too light. The other was this heavy brooch with pearls. So I figured this is a great find. There was also a silver necklace that I have seen on ebay before. It's a Bali Byzantine link. Well, right now they have a special, if you donate a canned food or a dollar to the jar, you get 15% off. The brooch cost $40.80 before tax; the necklace was $12 (she forgot to take off my 15%). I come home, and look it up ... IT'S MIKIMOTO! And this sucker weighs over 16 grams! I have no idea how much to ask for it, and if it is vintage or what.

And the necklace:

I don't understand the jar thing. I've bought a bunch of baggies/boxes/jars/containers of jewelry over the last few years. In every case they were either cheap enough that it didn't matter if there was any gold/silver or I could actually see enough gold/silver to make a profit. There is absolutely no way I'd pay $50/100/whatever on the hope that whoever filled the jar knew just enough about jewelry to make it worth what they were asking while simultaneously not knowing enough to price it at it's true market value. That's gambling. The brooch & the necklace were good buys with built in profit. Sticking with item's like that will make you a lot more money.

If I were you my asking price would be around $1000 for the Mikimoto but don't take my word for it. It may be worth even more. Great find...

God, I love this forum! I purchased the attached 14kt gold and pearl necklace at a GS for $2. It is stamped K14 and has an "M" in a sort of circle on both the pendant and chain clasp. I know of Mikimoto, but it never dawned on me until I read this thread that it is in fact, a Mikimoto necklace.

A couple of months ago someone else found a Mikimoto piece. So that is how *I* knew about it. It all traces back to here. :-)

Nice! I haven't seen any bags/jars since a few months ago when just one of the several GWs near me had a bunch.

I snatched 2 bags up recently

Got a 14k opal and diamond pendant. And a nice size 14k crucifix. It's hollow and unmarked but still nice
Ended up with almost 10g of 14k ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1419724505.588891.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1419724518.720123.jpg
