So, seems my posting capabilities are back in action (temporary IT problem that needed an email confirmation and an app uninstall and reinstall).

Anyway, I recently purchased a beauty off of eBay. Real or not, I'm extremely happy with this ring. Although I'm a fairly trusting person, in general, I'm not sure if I will get an honest answer on this one.

Any recommendations on evaluating "Real vs. Fake" emeralds? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1422775812.669232.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1422775843.156600.jpg

I'm going to make a complete guess and say odds are it probably is not real due to the size of the stone. That being said I have no way to know. Take it to a jeweler maybe?? It's a very pretty ring!

Its a beauty.... The stone looks to be synthetic due to it not having internal inclusions. Emeralds are known for have many inclusions. Pretty ring though... :)

That's a beauty of a ring either way.....an emerald of that size if it were real would be worth some very serious money.

Best advice I can give is have is looked over by a reputable jeweler.

Here's a link for some ideas on testing if they're real or not.

I bought a UV flashlight....now to find it after my 3-year old got ahold of it.

When I shined the black light on it, it had a very faint "pinkish" hue to it.

It looks lab created or worst case scenario would be colored glass. I'm thinking it's probably synthetic, looks pretty clean. Really no way to be sure without having a pro look at it. Nice looking ring though. I picked up a couple emerald pieces a few months ago myself, they are probably synthetic but I never had them looked at.

At the very least, I don't think it's glass. Apparently even synthetic emeralds can be valuable. Can anyone confirm?

Also, I think I read somewhere that they made synthetic emeralds out of Mt. Saint Helens ash.

The setting seems a little less refined for stone of that size. And Emeralds do usually have inclusions.

Ooh, yeah, purty!
The designs on the gold, almost resemble the Black Hills gold jewelry, sometimes comes in tri-color gold. Which may would also explain, emerald from Mt St Helen's. If you put a super magnifier too it, you see any inclusions, deposits, it looks really clean.
Are there any markings? Very nice ring.
