My hubs went to a sale today and bought this pin for $35. He kept telling me that only the top piece was magnetic. Me - "what, that doesn't make any sense bc it's marked WEDGWOOD....which is pottery!!" So I get home and look at the piece closer. Yes, indeed it's magnetic, making it basalt? We tested the gold and it's at least 14K, but likely in between (15ct?).

Now, here is where you come in. What is this piece? Date? Value?

As always....you guys ROCK!!!! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1424994832.547351.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1424994845.380460.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1424994856.696887.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1424994867.846213.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1424994877.246647.jpg

Due to the color I'd say more like 18kt unless its stamped 14 and the makers had a little bit higher grade used but highly doubtful. Age I don't believe to terribly old. I noticed the back and how rough some if it is also the gold that accidentally bridged over in the filigree work here and there which shows this is a quick cast and they didn't go back to clean their work. Older pieces time and patience was shown especially in filigree work. Its a beautiful piece and well worth by a long shot what was paid. If you don't mind, did you acid test this? If so what level acid did you go up to?

Um...
I may be mistaken but I think your "hubby" may have purchased a very rare item here.
Never did symbols often...
mostly scenes or caricatures.
gold leafing on basalt looks like as well...
thought it was reversed at first by picture... but looked closer.

MAy be a custom one off... or the likes... tis weird one ...
and very nice one at that.
Tis a brooch.
