Possible British WW2 military score

Ok deferring to resident experts here...

I have the fortune of befriending a very nice lady who runs a local estate company, most of her sales are basic furniture home furnishings etc. However she does get jewelry toys militaria and other cool stuff which she will give me first dibs on, lucky me!

This stuff is in her upcoming sale and could only find info on the compass. Could not find anything on the canteen or miners lamp. I do know it is British officer stuff from ww2. No idea where to start with the horn as well...want to know as much as possible before meeting her to discuss price!

The compass is a Koehn officers WW2 piece that looks pretty nice!

psst thats not a canteen --its a brass type pistol " blackpowder gunpowder flask" as is the "powder horn" item ( rifle type) as well * for old era or modern black powder type weapons

as a avid blackpowder shooter I know both well...frankly I'd like them for my hunting guns...LOL

most likely a repo --see the side cordage * as well as the fact it has no button on the bottom? minor differences are made on repo items --this done to prevent folks from claiming the repo is a "antique" one --its still nice however and both would look nice with my deer hunting side lock blackpowder rifle

if you run across any jewelry marked 950 * its the marking for PLATINUM -- where as 925 is the purity marking for sterling silver (925 parts per 1000 pure) --often unknowing folks think that silver colored 950 marked items are 950 silver -- huge mistake since its really platinum (white gold -- the marking means 95% pure platinum --950 parts per 1000 pure* ) basically buy it as if its silver , and sell it for gold -- 16 bucks per oz vs 1150 per oz cha ching

It is a British family where the Gpa served as a Lieutenant in WW2 supposedly. Thinking the compass is legit at least.

The lamp is called a Davy lamp. Used in Welsh coal mines as well as other mines I guess.

Ivan, just a heads-up on that 950 mark, there is quite a bit of 95% fine silver jewelry around, and it's generally marked 950 also (I own a really nice Taxco piece in 950 silver myself). Your tip is an excellent one but personally I have flipped several items marked 950 and they were all silver, not platinum (to my great disappointment).

The compass looks just fine, but it appears to be ww1. The case is dated 1917. Those look to be $50-100 depending on condition.

like I said buy it as if it is 950 silver by weight -- but check it out to be 950 platinum .. can't go wrong that way ..

because of the 950 marking --it turns out it was indeed silver --but many times its not when marked 950

I agree nice compass WW 1 / WW2 era type ( left over WW 1 stock was used in WW2 as well).. and old welsh miners lamp

Some silver is indeed marked 950. Objects made of Platinum will often feel oddly dense and heavy, if you are not familiar with it. When it gets worn, it will start to look grayish, but, it does not tarnish. White gold is yellow gold alloyed with a white metal.

Ah, I see what you mean, Ivan, that's definitely sound advice (buying as 950 silver & double-checking for platinum). Haven't found any Pt yet and haven't had any occasion to handle any either so I probably wouldn't know it if it "jumped up and bit me", aside from the visual/tactile differences from Au and Ag.

What is the name on that lamp? I just noticed it has a light bulb and is set up differently than most Welsh lamps.
