Bought this sign at a local car show 2 weeks ago for $50. Autographed by Smokey Yunick & Bunkie Blackburn and had Bunky stencilled on the opposite side. I knew what it was but I'm fairly sure the seller didn't. It's a pit board used so the driver knows which pit stall is his. The only time Bunkie Blackburn drove for Smokey during the time period this particular pit board style was in use was at the first ever Talladega race in 1969.. Sold it a couple days ago for $375.

Wow! Just me. I would have held on to that...
I must admit it was tempting. Been into racing all my life & even owned and built a few cars. But.. Being retired means always looking for ways to make a few extra bucks like alot of us. $325 profit in less than a week on 1 item is hard to say no to. If the driver was somebody well known I would have kept it.

Between the pit board and the signatures on it, that piece was a home run! Thanks for sharing. I like NASCAR but it ain't what it used to be, then again nothing is.

Nice find and very cool piece of racing history! On a side note, I must say I hate your profile picture, NHBandit. IT haunted my childhood for many years...stupid neighbor made me watch that movie. Pretty lame movie now but it was terrifying when I was 8.

Bunkie Blackburn was one of those guys who never made it big enough for his name to be remembered and likely isn't every going to be in the Hall of Fame but he was a close friend of Smokey Yunick & drove one Cup race for Smokey in the 1966 Daytona 500. That's why Bunkie signed the pit board with the #22. The Talladega race the sign was used at was a GT race (now the new Xfinity Series) and he drove the #3 Boss 302 Mustang.

Watching American Pickers rerun last night and Smokey Yunick was brought up. Seems he got in some trouble for hooking a nitrous bottle to his Nascar car. First one to try it, or get caught that is...
