I bought this belt for $2. It is marked "40%" on every link and has an unreadable mark on the catch. It almost looks Hebrew or Arabic? Any ideas? Is it 40% silver? Has anyone heard of that mark being used? It has a light tarnish with a coppery hue, 247.6 grams.

Yowza! Thanks for the link. I couldn't find anything related with my searches. Will get it tested. I guess the "coppery tarnish" could be 8k golden tones.

Out in the natural light it goes from rose to white to gold. Will keep you posted. No real Jewelers in my little town, so, I'll go in search of someone with an electronic tester Monday.

Nearest pawn shop should be able to help you out as long as they don't offer to buy it from you after telling you it's fake, lol. That'd be something wouldn't it, if it was gold? Fingers crossed!

I'll take a 2% finders fee, lol.

" It almost looks Hebrew or Arabic?"

Just to let you know it's neither Hebrew nor Arabic...

China even fakes it's own stuff. lol Not gold at all. Oh well, still a good buy at $2 as a pretty belt. Since I had to head to "the big city" anyway, I cashed in my scrap gold I paid less than $5 for, got $370. All in all a good day.
