Pictures are up!

First up I went to a sale on Saturday. I bought:
A massive ~100lb post leg vice for $25. Worth ~$275
ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510162350.618048.jpg
A large wagon vice from 1800s (probably civil war era or before) for $50. Worth ~$175-200 at least.
ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510162366.631354.jpg
An anvil vice for $35. Its a small anvil... with a vice. Probably worth ~$100 but I will probably add it to my collection(I have like 5 anvils right now).

Went to a guy's house today who is moving and selling a ton of stuff. I bought:
A 195 pound anvil for $200. The back part where the hardy holes are is broken so that cuts the price some. Still a beautiful anvil besides that. Probably will be able to get at least $2.5 a pound so $487.

5 huge pieces of petrified wood. Large red/rainbow pieces from Arizona probably and a couple beautiful wind worn brown pieces from Wyoming. One of the red ones is a massive log that weighs probably 200+ pounds. It is bigger than the anvil and I had to use a dolly to move it. The other pieces range from 40 pounds to 120 pounds. Got them for $16 a piece or $80 total. If I find the right buyer I could get well over $1k for them because of the size and color.
All of these pictures were taken with a 1 liter bottle for scale.
This one is ~100 pounds and has a great rainbow color. From Arizona most likely.

This next one has nots in the wood from where limbs were. Super rare.

These next 2 are from Wyoming. They are wind polished which means they were sitting on the surface for hundreds of years while the wind slowly polished them. These have some amazing bark and wood veins on them still as I show in one of the close ups.

Last up is the biggest one. It is a deep beautiful red and has to weigh at least 200 pounds. I didn't get pictures of one of the sides because I didn't feel like being able to turn it over! It still has some very nice bark as well.

Love the petrified wood! Think I'd have to hold onto that.

I'll probably hold onto at least the biggest piece for yard decorations. Depending on the price I will probably sell the rest.

Great stuff ethanfez! Thanks for sharing. I love those wind polished pieces. I have several pieces of petrified wood myself. I like agatized pieces. Though my biggest probably only weighs a few pounds or so. Petrified wood is rare as hens teeth around here.

I'd like to join in with everyone's praise of your huge hard wood. Thank you for showing us pictures!

And yes, that's a reference to Beavis and Butt-head Do America.

Seriously, a fantastic find. And anvils too? They are hard to find around me; I saw two for sale this year and one had already sold. I think you may be a bit optimistic with pricing on the 195 lb one. Often when damaged like that the area near the missing section is not useable. You can check the rebound by by dropping a small ball bearing onto it. The face and horn look OK, but function is more important than looks.

I actually am a blacksmith so I know a lot about anvils. I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't have wonderful rebound. The face is almost perfect and the rebound is still very very nice. Overall it is a quality anvil. Just missing a small part. Around me anvils this size usually go for at least $5 a pound. I cut the price in half for some damage. Already have 1 person interested in buying it this weekend for $500.

You should see the petrified log Old Digger has. Those are some great old tools for sure.

Ethanfez,

are you going to repair the first vise? I looks like its missing the strap/spring assembly that commonly goes missing on post legs.

Forgot to add these to the pictures. The first one is probably 40 pounds of brass and the other is an old sears motor. He gave them both to me for free.
