Random items - help with Asian pot and brass lamp stand

Hello everyone,

I went to one of those sales where nothing was amazing but everything was decent and the prices were ok.

I picked up all the items below. The lamp stamp is flowers with three snakes going up the stand. Another regular was very interested in it and mentioned it to me a few times. It looks brass to me. Anyone have any ideas when it is from and value?

The pottery made to look like a tree was cheap. Anyone know what language the markings are?

I really love that (lamp?)
only found one other like it online, never seen anything quite like it before. I wonder if it was originally intended as a lamp ?

This one went unsold on ebay for $495.00 a bit back, with some further digging you may turn up more info.

I have found those same brass cyprus trees before, i think i got $50 each on ebay but never found a pair.

As far as the pottery, i know nothing about asian pottery, but they look chinese to me.

Thanks Zombieraccon! Before your post, I would have definitely said it was originally made to be a lamp, but after looking at it, there is a chance the lamppost was added later and the snakes wrapped around it.

How did you find that one on eBay? I searched current, sold, and completed and can't find that listing. Can you send the link?

It may very well have been a lamp, and theirs may be missing the post, but looking at it my first impression was the base for a rack of some sort, perhaps coat rack or laundry hanger, or who knows what. So i did widen the search a bit. The nature of repurposing has changed quite a bit in the last century, so when i see older things that i havsnt seen before my mind start to wander.

Thanks Zombieraccoon! Really helpful....the more I look at it, the more I don't think it was originally a lamp. Once of the regulars was very interested in it. Next time I see her, I will ask why.

Let me know if you find out anything, xan you post a pic of the top ? I really like the piece. did a little googling and really didnt end up finding anything else. looked bird baths, umbrella bases, ashtray stands, book stands, lamps, etc.

this ashtray was the only similar thing i saw nothing else really close.

First I want to commend you on your picks... well done.

I think you scored pretty hefty here.

Lets start with your brass wall arts... It is called a "tree of life wall art"... mid century... worth at least 250 for pair. (or valued at what someone will pay)
Remember you have a pair... which is rarer.

Your pots - I will get back on these - NICE score I feel at this point. (look to be Japanese)

But what I really want to get to before it gets too out of control here is your lamp....

Your TABLE LAMP... IS a bronze / brass IMO... and not in any way affiliated with item posted / depicted above... which IMO is a copy of yours. (to assure me of this I need you to take a magnet to areas NOT on the "stem"...
The main stem might be magnetic.

I will await your reply on the lamp to further you.

The candle sticks... common... I have the same pair.

Close ups... several angles and markings if any.

I need to also know IF the one is metal... IF so... it is definitely bronze... and DEFINATELY old.

And DEFINATELY worth serious bucks man.

hahaha.....thx AARC! I didnt log on for a while and was curious what the replies were about.

@zombiracoon...I added some pics of the top.

So, I checked everything with a rare-earth magnet. The "light post" wasn't magnetic at all, either the base or the post. The bronze looking planter thing was very slightly magnetic.

So, the more I look at it, I think the light post thing is really old. I looked again and cannot find a mark. One other thing that is odd. I dont think the things sticking out of the snakes mouths are their tongues. I think they are meant to be worms.

The wood looking pottery thing / yixing tree, to me looks like something modern that was made to look old. The branch sticking out on the side does not have a hole/ it is not a spout.

The bronze looking planter looked really good to me, but if you look at the bottom, it almost looks like brass with a bronze finish. The rivets also don't look that old to me, but I am not expert. Even if it is modern, it is worth more than I paid for it.

Both of these do look Japanese to me.

Let me know what everyone thinks and if I should upload more pics. I paid $45 for everything plus some things not pictured so I am happy. Thanks for all the interest and info!

hmm.. clicking on the attachmemts says invalid for me.

One thing to remember about electronics... though they did start getting made in the 1880s, most people didnt have electricity in their homes til the 20s at the earliest. by 25 half the homes in america had electric. 19th century electrical items are exceedingly rare, and generally very valuable. To me the style and construction of this piece predates electricity, If it is not magnetuc, that even furthers that thought, as I (never assume anything) assumed that it was cast iron, if it is bronze, i think you have something that should receive some serious scrutiny

Just showed the pics to a friend who also has interest in these things, and asked her what she thought, she said it looks like an old crystal ball stand used by fortune tellers.

I personally don't totally agree with that... but in this case the saying applies...

First... Pictures are way better / great.... well done.
Second... Lets start over with these items.

The tree pot first... one word after closer inspection... weird.
The snake tree lamp... Definitely a mix of bronze, copper, AND brass.... WHICH... takes this to another level... AND is definitely IMO a table lamp.
The planter... Still old as dirt... IF real... and should be studied further by you as to "value" AND real age... the "look" of the age can and is faked ALOT.

I am gonna poke around on some things for you...
