Coil Cover

Dumb question however I'm new to the hobby. Can a coil cover be left on while detecting? If so how does it affect the depth? Thanks and thank god for this forum

Yes, leave it on. The coil cover is for protection of your search coil from wear,scratches, chips and keeps it in good condition in case you ever want to sell it. Just take it off periodically and clean out the soil and sand that accumulates in it, because it can effect the performance. As to effecting the depth? It doesn't.
