For those hunters that use the Garrett Propointer and have or will experience this type of problem.

[]

The problem is that moisture has creeped in the pointer and condensed on the circuit board causing this malfunction.
Solution:
Remove battery.
Remove the rubber boot over the switch. (very easy to do)
Blow low heat from a hair dryer down the switch hole or set in a dry open area for a few days.

But if you dare to venture in:
First the rubber boot must be taken out or you will break the switch off when you pull the unit out of the housing.
Next remove battery and the one screw that holds the entire circuit board in place.
It is a very tight fit.

My pointer was three years out of warranty so I decided to fix it myself and I made the mistake of not removing the rubber boot and actually broke my switch off.
This is how I learned about the moisture issue.
