what would cause excessive noise at the end of a swing? I've checked the connections, the coil wrap on the shaft, the coil for cracks or holes but I still get threshold noise at the end of the swing arc, both in and out of the water. I've also made sure to keep the coil level and it happens on both a fast swing and a slow scrub swing.

Are you holding anything metal in your other hand . It is very sensitive to airborne metal. Coins in pocket, lighter so on.

That's quite common in the water. The coil suddenly stops and churned up the sand which causes some falsing. Another cause is your coil not remaining parallel to the bottom at the end of a swing. It kind of arcs up slightly....again causing some falsing. Slow your swings down a little without sudden stops and maintain the coil in a parallel position at the end of a swing. This should help.
